Let’s talk about the WIP
I saw nothing in the fun, idiotic, criminal realm this week other than a couple of 5’s breaking into a guy’s house to throw glitter on him (Two Women Arrested For Glitter Attack In Florida - ABC Columbia). Since it happened in Florida, I’m betting meth had something to do with it, but cocaine seems like a good candidate too. My guess is the guy gave one or both of them an STD. Or one of them tried to pick him up at last call and got shot down in epic fashion. She was so mad she brought her wingman along for moral support during an epic payback. Now that I’m reading this over, I don’t think I should automatically go so dark. Maybe this was all just a misunderstanding, maybe the glitter attack was just a really festive way of letting him know he was the father.
Either way, I wasn’t inspired enough to make my own scene out of it. I feel like Florida can do better. Instead, we’re going to talk about the work-in-progress.
Right now, I’m working on the first draft of a third Jackson Cole novel (Shattered Circle, Acquisitor). Apparently, I like to rotate between crime thriller and horror/fantasy because I’m doing the second Ty Benhoff (Blood Red Ivory) right after this one. The next Jackson Cole, tentatively titled Breach, is set up kind of like Tarantino’s True Romance (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you should be ashamed of yourself). Only instead of an Elvis fanatic and a call girl I’m going with a former Army Ranger and a Fae, think fairy, but more Carnival Row than Tinkerbell.
I got a good premise, clean plot outline, and a whole host of bad guys chasing them; but man, the storylines are kicking my ass. It’s like each book has its own personality. Some move right along with the outline like a good, obedient Golden Doodle. Then others run from the outline like some back-alley mutt who just fell into a pile of bath salts. He’s a lot of fun but at any second, he might go high and right and eat your face off.
Breach is lining up to be a rescue for sure. I’m figuratively looking for one of those shock collars so I can bring that thing to heel.
That sounds more like a vent of rage than an update. But it’s my blog, my rules. I’ll be sure to keep you updated when and if I get this guy on a leash.
In other news…Oh Yeah! BLOOD RED IVORY LAUNCHES ON JANUARY 18TH! What!
My sixth novel, published by WildBlue Press. NCIS Agent Tyrone Benhoff taking on Ivory smugglers, and his own agency, while trying to solve a murder in the Zimbabwean bush. That’s all I’m going to say for now because I don’t want to spoil anything. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it. And Ty will be back next year.
Shifting gears to wrap this rant up, I’m sorry to announce the Amelia Island Book Expo is canceled due to COVID. That sucks, but I’m looking for another event to take its place.
Stay tuned.
Don’t forget. Blood Red Ivory January 18th, Pre-order now at.
